R&B, funk and disco legends Fatback Band are the newest addition to the MN2S booking agency live music roster.

Formed in New York City in the early 1970s by session drummer Bill “Fatback” Curtis, the group set out to combine the New Orleans ‘fatback’ beat with the early funk music that was popular at the time.

Playing off their image as a “street funk” band, The Fatback Band had their first big hit with the riff-heavy, horn-filled instrumental ‘Street Dance.’ The band’s street funk era peaked around the mid-1970s, with the release of the classic funk LPs Keep On Steppin’ in 1974 and Yum Yum in 1975.

After that, the band’s sound began to evolve and they moved to combine their jazzy funk with the disco sounds they heard around them. Towards the late 70s the band changed their name to simply Fatback and released a string of disco-influenced LPs and singles, including their first top ten hit ‘I Like Girls.’

Their 1979 track ‘King Tim III’ is often hailed as one of the first commercially-released rap songs, paving the way for many other rap tracks in the same year, and laying some of the groundwork for the birth of hip hop.

Throughout the 1980s, Fatback Band had huge chart success in the on both sides of the Atlantic, with ‘(Do The) Spanish Hustle’ and ‘I Found Lovin’ both making it to the top ten of the UK singles chart.

Now, still led by founding member Bill Curtis, the Fatback Band tour the world putting on their famously funky and energetic live shows, creating a party-like atmosphere where the whole crowd has to get up and dance at venues all over the globe. They play their biggest hits from all kinds of genres, including ‘I Found Lovin,’ ‘Spanish Hustle,’ ‘Is This The Future,’ ‘Back Strokin’ ‘Wicky Wacky,’ ‘Keep On Steppin,’ ‘I Like Girls,’ ‘(Are You Ready) Do The Bus Stop’ and ‘King Tim III (Personality Jock).’

The Fatback band were recently awarded the ‘Best Soul Concert’ accolade from Soul Survivors Magazine in 2013, solidifying their reputation as one of the best live acts around.
