In 2004 the Mayor of Chicago (with support from then Illinois Senator, Barack Obama) decided to honour one of the most influential and inspiring figures in music. Since then, August 25th has been Frankie Knuckles Day.
Not only did they grant him a date in the calendar to celebrate his work and creativity, they also renamed a street Frankie Knuckles Way in his honour.
The street that bears his name is where the legendary Warehouse used to be located, a club with which Frankie became synonymous for his genre hopping sets and creative approach to DJ performances.
Frankie Knuckles: The Legacy
Today marks the 10th anniversary of the celebration and the first since Frankie sadly passed away in March. Although for many it’ll be a time for remembrance, it is also a chance to celebrate the achievements and positive impact Frankie had on music, all of which can still be felt to this day.
