News | MN2S | Jazzy Jeff 4th July jam

Every year the city of Philadelphia celebrates Independence Day by throwing a mini festival called ‘Philly’s Fourth of July Jam’. The event always features some of the biggest names in American music and this year they were joined by MN2S artist DJ Jazzy Jeff.

Billed as the ‘largest free concert in America’ and set up on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway that runs through the cultural heart of Philadelphia, organisers booked acts including The Roots, Ed Sheeran, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Hudson, Aloe Blacc, Ariana Grande, Vicci Martinez and DJ Jazzy Jeff. As an added bonus the master of ceremonies for the evening was comedian and actor Marlon Wayans.

DJ Jazzy Jeff contributed towards one of the evening’s most memorable events when he took on Jeremy Ellis in a live DJ battle with beats supplied by The Roots drummer Questlove. In a consistently high quality set, the standout moment came when DJ Jazzy Jeff led into the Super Mario theme tune. While Jeff used his skills as a turntabalist to manipulate the track, Questlove and Jeremy Ellis joined in to deliver a unique and collaborative rendition of the well-known theme.

After years of pleasing crowds around the world, DJ Jazzy Jeff’s signature professionalism was undoubtedly on show at this year’s ‘Philly’s Fourth of July Jam’.
