You don’t hold down residencies at Space, Pacha, KM5 and Rock Bar without having an intimate knowledge of Ibiza. Mr. Doris’ expertly eclectic sets have won fars far and wide, from Carl Cox to Quantic, and have seen him put together mixes for Defected, Pauze and Ibiza’s own El Chiringuito. His After Dark sessions on Space’s Sunset Terrace for We Love… are the stuff of legend – with the likes of Jazzanova and DJ Vadim playing alongside him – while his productions have been picked up by Red Bull and MTV for ad campaigns and continue to garner acclaim.
We asked Mr. Doris’ to give us his inside guide to the island.
Favourite bar?
So many to choose from! Rock Bar in the port of Ibiza for catching up with friends, 1805 in Sa Penya for some top-notch cocktails, La Mezcalaria in the Dalt Vila for the Mexican touch and Sunrise Bar in Calle de la Virgen for the carry-on.
Favourite cafe?
I usually just go to Plaza del Parque in Ibiza Town as it’s so close to my home where I can choose from an abundance of cafes and watch the world go by all year round.
Favourite restaurant?
Pastis in Ibiza Town (only a few minutes away from my home) has the highest quality food in a real intimate setting. El Chiringuito in Es Cavallet for the best beach dining experience on the island, and the ever changing menu and prices of Comidas San Juan (also in Ibiza Town).
Favourite club?
Space, Space and Space again. It’s the only club with five arenas of music so there is room for experimentation (and the only venue nowadays that will try to do something different). Plus the Funktion One soundsystem just kicks the shit out of all the others.
Favourite area?
There really are so many to choose from but I guess I really like the year round tranquility of Sant Agnes. Even in the height of summer this area seems to be laid back.
Favourite local (person)?
The fiddle-playing skaghead who always seems to ponce a few cents from me even though I should know better.
Favourite tourist attraction?
The dodgems and bungee jump in San Antonio. Well class.
Favourite place to chill?
Formentera – The only place to get away from it all. This incredible island just off of Ibiza really does have some of the best beaches I have ever been to.
Favourite clothes shops?
Favourite other shops?
Can a tattooist be classed as a shop? If so, it has to be Inkadelic in Mercado Viejo (the square just below the Dalt Vila in Ibiza Town). Not only is Neil (the proprietor) the best at his trade, the parlour itself is like a ye olde shoppe of curiosity with all manner of stuffed animals, trinkets from around the world and things in formaldehyde (some of which I have bought from him).
Favourite record shop?
M12 in Ibiza Town – to my knowledge it’s the only one here! To be honest the record shops on the island have never really done it for me as they only focus on house music. To get anything different it’s always good to go searching at one of the many markets that are held around the island on the weekends. Proper diggin’.
Favourite hotel?
The Giri Residence in San Juan. Boutique and luxury in one place.
Your best night out in the city / most memorable story?
Far too many to mention as I’ve been coming here for 18 years! Although Halloween is always special as the weather is usually still good. It was exceptional last year. everyone has finished work for the summer and people seriously make an effort when it comes to costumes.
Hidden gems / lesser-known tips?
I’m not going to give too much away but there is a fantastic restaurant on a secluded private island to the north-east of Ibiza that you have to visit by boat.
