MN2S PR is thrilled to be working with the charitable organization Ara and their supporter Steph Shilton.
Ara is a charitable organization that supports those suffering from addiction and mental health issues across both Wales and the Southwest of England. The Bristol-based initiative stands behind the motto Recovery For All, and has made great strides in helping those suffering from gambling addiction. Ara offers everything from structured treatment and counselling to education and employment guidance. They also offer housing support for those who are homeless or face losing their home through their addiction.
Ara has recently launched the Six to Ten Project, a partnership initiative with two other UK
charities (Beacon Counselling Trust and DrugFAM) that places ‘affected others’ — those directly
affected by an individual’s harmful gambling — at the centre of care. This gives family and
friends of gambling addicts somewhere to find free and confidential help and advice for
both them and the person affected by addiction.
Steph Shilton is an ambassador for the Six to Ten Project and the wife of legendary England goalkeeper Peter Shilton. She previously worked as a manager in the NHS for 27 years, but was also an affected other for a long time — her husband Peter endured a 45-year chronic gambling addiction that she eventually helped him to overcome. She has only been involved with Ara for a few months but has become both a vocal champion and proud project worker for them, using her lived experience, life coaching qualifications, and wealth of healthcare experience to help those who reach out and to propel this much-needed programme into the headlines.
