Steph Shilton, wife of former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton, shared a candid and powerful account of supporting her husband through his 45-year gambling addiction during a live interview on Greatest Hits Radio Essex on 7th July. Now an addiction counsellor and Patron at Bristol University’s Gambling Harm Hub, Steph highlighted the hidden emotional toll gambling takes on families and loved ones. Discussing the isolation, fear, and recovery journey she and Peter faced, Steph emphasized the spike in gambling risks during major sporting events and the rising number of women betting on football, while urging those affected by gambling addiction to seek support and shining a light on the often overlooked impacts beyond the individual gambler.
