During most games, halftime is an opportunity for fans to hit the bathrooms, concession stands, or check their social media.
Halftime of the Super Bowl is most certainly not one of those times. The Super Bowl halftime show has become a must-see concert event for fans of all kinds of music, and this year is no different. With the 100th anniversary of the NFL approaching in seven months time, this year’s halftime show is set to be as spectacular as ever.
Pop-rock superstars Maroon 5 will headline this years event, and with good reason. The group has won three Grammy awards, and been nominated thirteen times. They are one of the most popular groups of the last decade, having nine of their singles reach No 1 and selling over 53 million albums. However, Maroon will not be alone: they will be sharing the stage with two mega-stars of hip-hop, Travis Scott and Big Boi.
At just 26 years old, Travis Scott has already made remarkable achievements as an artist. He’s been nominated for six Grammy awards and has had every album he’s released has been certified platinum. He is nominated for Best Rap Album and Best Rap/Sung Performance at this year’s Grammy awards.
Big Boi is a legend of the hip-hop game, and brings some hometown flavour from the host city of Atlanta, Georgia. As a part of the group OutKast, with fellow rap legend Andre 3000, he sold more than 25 million records and won six Grammy awards. Beyond those accomplishments, OutKast has had an influence on the newest generation of rappers that is immeasurable. Big Boi has continued releasing solo music, with his most recent album Boomiverse being released in 2017.
These acts will bring a diverse and exciting energy to the always thrilling show. Maroon 5 will likely meld perfectly together with their hip-hop co-stars, seeing as they have had rappers featured on several of their hit records. Make sure to stay tuned to your TV’s even after the clock hits zeros in the second quarter of “The Big Game.”
