Making Waves in House Music
At just 17 years old, Max Jax is already making serious moves in house music. While many teenagers are figuring out what they want to do next, Max is already producing music, performing in some of London’s most recognisable venues and running his own events brand. His sound is rooted in the soulful, groove-led traditions of house, but his approach is distinctly his own.
Now, with his debut EP Soul Flavaz released through Raising Records, Max is taking another major step forward.
We caught up with the young producer to find out how he discovered house music, the challenges of establishing himself while still under 18, and what it means to have the backing of a label and industry team behind him.
Falling in Love With House Music
Max Jax’s musical journey began at the age of 12, when he first started experimenting with music production.
At that stage, he wasn’t necessarily thinking about genres. He was simply making music and exploring what was possible with the tools in front of him. As his production developed, Max began to realise that the sounds he was naturally drawn towards were deeply connected to house music.
He found inspiration in the classic sounds of labels such as Trax Records and Strictly Rhythm, developing an appreciation for the soulful grooves, samples and dancefloor energy that have defined house music for decades. That early curiosity quickly became a passion.
One of the moments that helped accelerate Max’s journey came when he posted a video of himself producing Don’t. The video caught the attention of Javon, who reached out to him after seeing Max at work on the track. It was an early sign that his music was capable of attracting attention beyond his immediate circle.
Making His Own Opportunities
Max isn’t content simply to wait for opportunities to come his way. Recognising that there was a gap in his local scene, he launched his own events brand, It’s a Real House Thing, with the goal of introducing more young people to the music he loves.
The concept reflects Max’s wider approach to music. For him, house isn’t just something to listen to or produce, it’s a culture and a community that he wants to be part of. Running events at 17 hasn’t been straightforward. His age has presented practical challenges, particularly when it comes to gaining access to venues and finding spaces willing to host his events.
But those obstacles haven’t stopped him. Instead, Max has continued to create his own opportunities, building an audience and demonstrating an entrepreneurial streak that sits alongside his work as a producer and DJ.

The Story Behind Soul Flavaz
Max’s debut EP, Soul Flavaz, brings together many of the influences that have shaped him so far.
The lead track, Soul Flavor, was inspired by his experiences performing at Studio 338. Playing to a crowd and experiencing the energy surrounding piano house had a direct influence on the track, helping Max capture some of that infectious dancefloor atmosphere in his own production.
Elsewhere, Funk and Soul demonstrates Max’s interest in taking inspiration from the past and giving it a fresh perspective.
Rather than simply recreating the sounds that inspired him, Max is interested in finding ways to reinterpret them. It’s an approach that allows Soul Flavaz to acknowledge the history of house while still sounding like the work of a young artist discovering his own voice.
Being 17 in the Music Industry
Max’s age is an unavoidable part of his story. Being a teenager in an industry built around nightlife can create challenges that older artists don’t have to consider. Getting into venues, performing late-night events and finding suitable spaces for his own nights can all be complicated.
