Geoff Hurst Backs Kane's England Bid | News | MN2S Talent

This season’s emergence of 21-year-old Spurs striker, Harry Kane, has made Tottenham and England fans alike, very excited for the future. The Chingford born forward has scored a remarkable 19 Premier League goals this season so far, which leaves him leading the goal scoring charts for an English born player.

This form has lead to huge praise from players and the media, who see him as being England’s main striker for years to come. And to receive praise from Sir Geoff Hurst must be a huge honour. The former World Cup hero has nothing but good things to say about Kane, and fully backs his bid to become England’s regular number 9.

Hurst’s pedigree makes the footballing world take notice

Sir Geoff Hurst began his career at West Ham United and played 411 games between 1959 and 1972, scoring 180 times during this period. The forward is of course, best remembered for his hat trick in England’s one and only World Cup final victory over West Germany in 1966. It’s also worth remembering that Hurst scored an impressive 24 goals in 49 appearances for the Three Lions, spanning from 1966 to 1972, playing in two World Cups. So, there are fewer former players in a better position to judge Harry Kane’s talents.

A great comparison – but can Kane live up to it?

Hurst has compared Kane to former German striker Thomas Muller. Citing not just his goal scoring, but also Kane’s all round play, including his ability to hold the ball up, which Muller is famous for. Hurst also says Kane reminds him of former Tottenham Hotspur and England forward, Teddy Sheringham, which leaves Hurst in no doubt that Kane has a very bright future for England.

This was certainly backed up when Kane made his expected debut as a substitute for England in their recent European qualifier against Lithuania. Kane wasted no time in staking his claim, by scoring within minutes of coming on from virtually his first touch.

Time will tell if Kane becomes the world-class striker he has the potential to be. In the mean time almost every England fan is hoping he can repeat Sir Geoff Hurst’s World Cup heroics.

If you’d like to hear more from the man himself, Geoff is available for corporate event bookings, where he can share his knowledge of the beautiful game with guests.
