Born in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany, in 1981, Boris Brejcha experienced significant adversity early in life. At six years old, he was severely injured in the Ramstein air show disaster, sustaining extensive burns that required months of hospitalization. This experience led him to withdraw socially during his school years, where he found solace and inspiration in music. After a classmate introduced him to a “Thunderdome” CD, Brejcha developed a fascination with electronic music production, beginning his journey as a hobbyist at the age of twelve.
Brejcha’s professional music career began in 2006 with his first releases and his debut performance at the Universo Paralello Festival in Brazil. It was at this festival that he first adopted his signature joker mask, inspired by the Brazilian Carnival, which has since become an integral part of his identity. His distinct musical style, which he coined “High-Tech-Minimal,” quickly gained international recognition, leading to numerous performances across South America and Russia. In 2007, the music magazine “Raveline” recognized him as an “exceptional talent.”
A significant turning point in Brejcha’s career occurred in 2015 when he co-founded his own music label, Fckng Serious, with Ann Clue and Deniz Bul. This platform allowed him to release a substantial volume of music and further cultivate his unique sound. He achieved widespread acclaim through recorded sets with the French streaming channel “Cercle” and his performance at the Tomorrowland festival; these videos collectively amassed approximately 140 million views on YouTube. His career progression has seen him consistently tour globally, perform at major festivals like Coachella and Hï Ibiza, and release several albums, including “Space Diver” in 2020 via Ultra Records and “Level One” in 2024. In 2021, DJ Mag ranked him 42nd in their Top 100 DJs list. Beyond music, Brejcha has also launched his own fashion brand and gained recognition for distributing personalized squeaky ducks with his joker mask at concerts for fans.
