Jamie Lewis is one of the stars and pioneers of the global house scene and has been for more than two decades. Working under the Cem Berter alias, Lewis first emerged on his native Swiss scene in 1985, where he was known for spinning disco, funk and soul, before then catching the house music bug. Before long he opened his own shop which went on to become hugely popular for the next 17 years. The natural next step for him was to start producing and so it was that in 1992 he debuted on UMM and then followed it up on Definitive Records.
His own label, Purple Music, followed in 1997 and since then Lewis has worked with big stars like Jocelyn Brown, Bob Sinclair, Corrine and Etienne De Crecy. He has picked up many awards for his work, as well as being remixed by legendary star Prince. Other big hits such as ‘The Light’ with Michelle Weeks, ‘For You’ and ‘It’s Over’ with the legendary singer Michael Watford as well as ‘So Sexy’ and ‘Mo Butter’ with Kim Cooper have all helped cement his status as a real hit maker, and indeed plenty of his tracks have climbed commercial charts all over Europe. As a DJ, Lewis is just as acclaimed and, on top of running his own club night, he has played all over Europe, from Milan to Istanbul, LA to Ibiza. Still releasing big tunes on labels like Defected, Universal and Warner, Jamie Lewis is a bona fide house legend.
