Kayper

Kayper is a London-born DJ and producer known for her influential contributions to hip-hop and electronic music, adeptly blending diverse genres for global audiences and brand collaborations. After joining a four-deck DJ crew and performing weekly at London’s Bar Rumba in 2003, Kayper went on to establish her influential club night, ‘Ebonics,’ in Cambridge in 2004, hosting notable DJs such as DJ Jazzy Jeff and DJ Premier. From 2006 to 2012, she held a significant role as a broadcaster on the BBC Asian Network and BBC Radio 1Xtra. Her shows championed emerging British South Asian talent and showcased a wide range of genres including hip-hop, dubstep, UK garage, drum and bass, house, and global music, cementing her reputation for an eclectic and forward-thinking sound.

Her production career commenced with a collaborative single alongside dubstep producer Engine Earz on Diplo’s acclaimed Mad Decent label in 2011. This was succeeded by solo releases on her Futurebox Records label, and the release of her ‘Out My Mind’ EP on Main Course in 2013, which garnered critical attention from Pitchfork and significant support from BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac. In 2015, she released the ‘Terminal’ EP featuring Janai on Eton Messy Records, followed by the single ‘What You Say’ with Jonny Winston, demonstrating her evolving sound. Continuing to push boundaries, Kayper notably released three EPs on Hypercolour Records in 2024.

These recent releases highlight a significant evolution towards a darker, underground sound, masterfully incorporating elements of techno, breaks, and dubstep. Her sustained ability to adapt and innovate across different musical eras, from her early hip-hop roots to her current electronic explorations, underscores her enduring influence and dedication to the industry, positioning her as a dynamic and continuously evolving artist.
