Nils Frahm’s emergence into the music scene began with his solo piano works, ‘Wintermusik’ and ‘The Bells,’ both released in 2009. His innovative approach gained significant critical attention with the 2011 album, ‘Felt,’ released on Erased Tapes. This seminal work showcased his unconventional techniques, such as placing felt on piano hammers to alter the instrument’s sound. During this period, Frahm also released the solo synthesizer EP ‘Juno’ in 2011 and ‘Screws’ in 2012, an album recorded during recovery from a thumb injury and offered as a free download to his fanbase, demonstrating his versatility and creative boundary-pushing.
His prolific output continued with the release of ‘Graz’ and ‘Old Friends New Friends,’ both in 2021. Building on his expansive discography, Frahm released ‘Music for Animals’ in 2022. He further expanded his repertoire with ‘Day,’ released in 2024, and has announced the forthcoming album ‘Night’ for 2025, demonstrating his ongoing creative evolution and commitment to pushing the boundaries of contemporary classical and electronic music.
