Request A ShowPrimary Wave Music Publishing partnered with Air Supply, acquiring a stake in their music publishing catalog and artist master royalty stream. This deal included a 70% stake in their catalog and royalty stream directly from band members Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock.
Air Supply formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 1975. The founding members, Graham Russell on vocals and guitar, and Russell Hitchcock on vocals, first met on May 12, 1975, during rehearsals for the Australian production of the musical “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Their first single, “Love and Other Bruises,” released in October 1976, reached No. 6 on the Australian Kent Music Report singles chart. Their debut album, “Air Supply,” followed in December 1976, peaking at No. 17 and achieving gold accreditation. The group gained international attention when their song “Lost in Love” was remixed by Arista Records boss Clive Davis and released as a single in the US in January 1980.
The duo’s album “Lost in Love,” released in March 1980, featured three US top-five singles: the title track (No. 3), “Every Woman in the World” (No. 5), and “All Out of Love” (No. 2). “Lost in Love” sold three million copies in the US and reached No. 22 on the Billboard 200. Their sixth studio album, “The One That You Love” (July 1981), produced their only No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with its title track. This era solidified their reputation for ballads, leading to consistent commercial success in the US and globally throughout the 1980s, including appearances on the US music show “Solid Gold.”
Air Supply continued to release successful albums and singles into the 1990s and 2000s, maintaining a strong presence in Asia. Their twelfth studio album, “The Vanishing Race” (May 1993), sold 4 million copies and was critically acclaimed in Asia, with the single “Goodbye” reaching No. 1 in many countries. In 2013, the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) inducted Air Supply into their Hall of Fame. Recently, a jukebox musical based on their songs, “All Out of Love: The Musical,” premiered in the Philippines in October 2018.
