Aj Mitchell

Aaron Fredrick “AJ” Mitchell Jr. was born on May 17, 2001, in Belleville, Illinois. He began piano lessons at the age of four, influenced by his father, who also learned piano and wrote songs. Mitchell attended Belleville West High School, participating in the football team and school choir. By age 13, he started performing at local open-mic nights and gained a following by posting covers and original songs on YouTube and Instagram. This online presence attracted the attention of LA-based artist manager Mike Spitz, with whom Mitchell began working in 2015.

Mitchell moved to Los Angeles in 2015 to collaborate with the internet marketing agency Team 10. However, he soon left the group to concentrate on his music career. In 2017, Mitchell independently released his first single, “Used to Be,” a song he had written at 13. This track, produced by Mike Dean, has accumulated over 150 million streams. Following this, Mitchell signed with Epic Records in February 2018. His first studio EP with Epic, “Hopeful,” was released in July 2018, featuring the lead single “Girls,” which reached No. 39 on the US Mediabase pop radio chart. In November 2018, Billboard and Vevo recognized Mitchell as one of their top 19 artists to watch in 2019.

Mitchell’s career continued to develop with his second EP, “Slow Dance,” released in August 2019, which included singles like “Talk So Much,” “Move On,” and the title track featuring Ava Max. He also signed a joint deal with Insanity Records, a Sony Music subsidiary, in June 2019. His debut studio album, “Skyview,” was released in October 2021, featuring several singles, including “Stop,” which reached No. 33 on the US radio charts. Mitchell has since released new singles such as “Passionate,” “Foolish,” and “Flowers on the Moon,” leading up to his second album, “As Far as the Eye Can See,” rescheduled for release in March 2025.
