Peanut Butter Wolf

Peanut Butter Wolf, born Christopher George Manak, is an American disc jockey, record producer, and the founder of Stones Throw Records, renowned for his contributions to hip-hop culture and independent music. After establishing a notable partnership with rapper Charizma in 1989 that gained local recognition through live performances and demo tapes across San Jose and the Bay Area, Peanut Butter Wolf went on to found Stones Throw Records in 1996. The independent label was initially conceived as a means to release his collaborative work with Charizma, following the rapper’s tragic death in 1993. Under his leadership, Stones Throw Records quickly became a pivotal imprint in independent music.

He has dedicated himself to chronicling early San Jose rap history, bringing attention to lesser-known artists and the unique challenges of music discovery in the pre-internet era. This archival work, combined with his discerning ear, has positioned him as a revered figure within the industry, known for his ability to unearth and champion innovative sounds. Demonstrating his ongoing active involvement in music production, Peanut Butter Wolf released a new album in 2024 with Brian Ellis under the group name Campus Christy, further showcasing his evolving artistic collaborations.
