Altın Gün is a pioneering Dutch-Turkish band hailing from Amsterdam that has redefined the sound of psychedelic rock with their unique fusion of Anatolian melodies and modern influences. Founded in 2016 by bassist Jasper Verhulst, Altın Gün was born out of a vision to connect traditional Turkish music with contemporary styles. Verhulst’s initial call for Turkish musicians on social media led to the formation of an exceptionally talented ensemble that now includes vocalist Erdinç Ecevit Yıldız, along with Dutch members Daniel Smienk, Chris Bruining, and Thijs Elzinga, among others.
The band’s debut album, *On*, released in 2018, marked a significant entry into the music scene, showcasing their captivating sound. Building on this success, their sophomore album, *Gece*, was nominated for the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2019 in the Best World Music Album category. This recognition solidified their standing in the global music community and set the stage for their first American tour later that year, which further broadened their audience.
In 2021, Altın Gün continued to evolve creatively with the release of *Yol*, incorporating synth-pop elements into their work. This experimentation carried through to their album *Âlem*, which was launched exclusively on Bandcamp, with proceeds benefiting the environmental non-profit Earth Today. Their latest release, *Aşk*, has garnered acclaim since its release on March 31, 2023, further exemplifying their commitment to musical innovation.
Notably, Altın Gün’s music has also made its way into popular culture, with contributions to the soundtrack of *Star Wars Jedi: Survivor* and the Apple TV ad *Büyük Kaçış*. As they continue to push boundaries and explore new musical territories, Altın Gün remains a compelling force in contemporary music.
