RJD2, also known as Ramble Jon Krohn, is an American music producer and DJ renowned for his distinctive blend of hip-hop, electronic, rock, and jazz elements. After signing with El-P’s Definitive Jux label, RJD2 gained significant recognition in 2002 with the release of his debut solo album, Deadringer. The album, featuring tracks like ‘The Horror’ and ‘Ghostwriter,’ became a staple in the early 2000s hip-hop scene and saw its music licensed for various commercials. RJD2 had established his distinctive production style earlier, releasing the Pryor Convictions EP with The Dirty Birds in 2000 and the single ‘June’ / ‘The Proxy’ in 2001, showcasing his intricate blend of hip-hop, electronic, rock, and jazz elements.
Demonstrating his ongoing commitment to evolving his craft, RJD2 ventured into music education in 2021, releasing the comprehensive course ‘RJD2: From Samples to Songs’ with Soundfly, sharing his expertise in sampling and arranging with aspiring producers worldwide. His recent musical output includes the collaborative album Escape from Sweet Auburn with STS in 2022, solidifying their partnership. Most recently, RJD2 released his latest solo project, Visions Out Of Limelight, in 2024, continuing to refine his building block methodology for sound, meticulously constructing unique sonic landscapes.
