Angus Stone was born on April 27, 1986, in Sydney, Australia. Raised in a musical family, he began writing songs at approximately 14 years old. After performing at open mic nights and occasionally with his sister Julia, they officially formed the duo Angus & Julia Stone in 2006. Their debut EP, “Chocolates and Cigarettes,” was released in August 2006. The duo gained significant recognition, with their second album, “Down the Way,” reaching number one in Australia in 2010 and achieving 3x platinum certification by ARIA. This success included ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Single of the Year’ for “Big Jet Plane” at the ARIA Music Awards of 2010, which was also voted No. 1 in the Triple J Hottest 100 in 2011.
Stone embarked on solo projects, releasing his debut solo album, “Smoking Gun,” in April 2009 under the pseudonym Lady of the Sunshine, which reached the top 50 on the ARIA Albums Chart. His second solo album, “Broken Brights,” released under his own name on July 13, 2012, peaked at number 2 on the Australian charts. In 2016, Stone introduced his new musical project, Dope Lemon, releasing the album “Honey Bones.” This was followed by the EP “Hounds Tooth” in 2017 and the second studio album “Smooth Big Cat” in 2019, which featured the single “Hey You.” In 2022, Dope Lemon released “Rose Pink Cadillac,” and in 2023, “Kimosabé,” which was his first Dope Lemon album to feature his face on the cover and reached number 9 on the ARIA albums chart.
Angus Stone’s career has showcased his versatility as a musician, evolving through various projects while maintaining a distinct sound. His work has earned multiple awards, including APRA Awards for ‘Songwriter of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’ with Julia Stone in 2011. He has also received nominations for ‘Best Male Artist’ and ‘Best Blues & Roots Album’ at the ARIA Music Awards for his solo efforts. Stone has consistently engaged with live performances, including appearances at major festivals such as Splendour in the Grass and extensive tours across the US, UK, Europe, and Australia.
