About

April Wine’s journey began in 1969 in Waverley, Nova Scotia, with initial members David Henman, Ritchie Henman, Jim Henman, and Myles Goodwyn. The band soon relocated to Montreal. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1971, featuring the hit single “Fast Train.” Following lineup changes, including Jim Clench replacing Jim Henman, their second album, On Record (1972), achieved significant success with singles like “You Could Have Been a Lady” and “Bad Side of the Moon,” gaining airplay in both Canada and the U.S. These early achievements established April Wine as a notable presence in the Canadian music landscape.

Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, April Wine consistently delivered hit songs and achieved critical and commercial success. Albums such as Stand Back (1975) and The Whole World’s Goin’ Crazy (1976) earned platinum status, with the latter being the first Canadian album to achieve this based on advance sales. The band transitioned through various lineups, notably welcoming Brian Greenway as a third guitarist in 1977, contributing to a more powerful hard rock sound. They toured extensively, opening for major acts like The Rolling Stones, Styx, and Rush, and gaining international recognition with hits like “Roller” (1979), “I Like to Rock” (1980), and “Just Between You and Me” (1981).

April Wine’s enduring career is marked by substantial achievements and continued touring. The band has released 16 studio albums and sold over 20 million albums worldwide, earning numerous gold and platinum certifications. Their contributions to Canadian music were formally recognized with inductions into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame in 2009, the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2010, and Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2023. The band continues to perform across North America, maintaining a dedicated fanbase and showcasing the enduring appeal of their rock catalog with current members Brian Greenway, Richard Lanthier, Roy Nichol, and Marc Parent. Myles Goodwyn, co-founder and long-time frontman, passed away in December 2023.
