Asake, the stage name of Nigerian artist Ahmed Ololade, has rapidly ascended the ranks of the Afrobeats genre since his breakthrough in 2022. Initially studying Theatre and Performing Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University, Asake’s passion for music led him to release his first songs in 2018. His career took a significant turn when he signed with YBNL Nation, a label founded by renowned artist Olamide, which provided him with a platform to showcase his unique sound.
In September 2022, Asake released his debut album, *Mr. Money with the Vibe*, which shattered records by achieving the biggest opening day for an African album on Apple Music. The album debuted at number 66 on the Billboard 200, marking it as the highest-charting Nigerian debut album at that time. His infectious singles, including “Terminator” and “Sungba,” captivated audiences and solidified his status as a leading figure in the Afrobeats scene.
Following the success of his debut, Asake continued to build on his momentum with the release of his sophomore album, *Work of Art*, in June 2023. This album also debuted at number 66 on the Billboard 200 and was recognized as the most streamed Nigerian album of the year. His innovative approach to music, blending traditional Afrobeats with contemporary sounds, has garnered him a dedicated fanbase.
Asake’s accolades include multiple awards, such as an All Africa Music Award and two Headies awards, alongside nominations for prestigious honors like the BET and Grammy Awards. With his third album, *Lungu Boy*, set to release in 2024, Asake is poised to continue his remarkable journey, further establishing himself as a powerhouse in the global music industry.
