Belmont, an American rock band from Chicago, Illinois, was formed in 2014 while its members were still in high school. The initial lineup, led by frontman and lead vocalist Taz Johnson, underwent several changes before stabilizing with guitarist Sam Patt, bassist Alex Wieringa, and drummer Brian Lada. The band self-released their debut EP, “Vicissitude,” which was produced by Mat Kerekes of Citizen and his brother. This early release marked their entry into the music scene.
In 2016, Belmont signed with Mutant League Records, leading to the release of their EP “Between You & Me.” The band continued to build their presence, releasing a music video for their single “Step Aside” in 2017. Their self-titled debut studio album, “Belmont,” was released in August 2018, featuring music videos for singles like “Hollowed Out” and “Hideout.” The band supported this release with extensive touring, including performances with Senses Fail and The Amity Affliction in 2019. In early 2020, Belmont embarked on a North American tour with Sleeping with Sirens, Set It Off, and Point North, though this tour was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following the unexpected halt in touring, Belmont shifted their focus to writing and recording new material. Their second studio album, “Aftermath,” was released in 2022 under Pure Noise Records, and the band resumed touring activities. More recently, Belmont released their third studio album, “Liminal,” on April 12, 2024, featuring the single “All Bite.” The album reflects a period of significant personal change for frontman Taz Johnson, exploring themes of transition and adaptation. Belmont’s musical style has been described as pop punk and prog punk, showcasing their evolution and versatility within the rock genre. They have performed at venues such as Amsterdam Bar and Hall, The Oriental Theater, The Urban Lounge, The Shredder, and The Crocodile.
