Roger David, professionally known as Bohemia, was born on October 15, 1979, in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. He spent his early childhood in Peshawar before moving to California with his family around the age of 14. Bohemia began studying music under his father at a young age, simultaneously developing his interest in Punjabi poetry. This early exposure to music and language laid the foundation for his future career. In 2002, Bohemia released his first independent album, “Vich Pardesan De” (In The Foreign Land), an autobiographical work detailing his experiences as a South Asian youth adapting to American life. This album was a foundational step in his career, establishing his unique voice in the emerging Punjabi rap scene.
His career advanced significantly in 2006 with the release of “Pesa Nasha Pyar.” This album marked a milestone as the first full-length Punjabi-rap album released by a major record label, Universal Music Group Pvt. Ltd. India. The album gained considerable attention, reaching #2 on Maxim India’s top 10 downloads and #3 on the Planet M chart. This success led to a multi-record deal with Universal Music Group. His third album, “Da Rap Star,” released in December 2011, received four nominations at the UK Asian Music Awards and PTC Punjabi Music Awards, including Best Punjabi Album. “Da Rap Star” held the #1 position on the Planet M chart in India for several weeks, further cementing his prominence in the music industry. In 2012, his album “Hazar Gallan” (Thousand Thoughts) was released and later received the Best Non-Resident Punjabi Album award at the PTC Punjabi Music Awards in 2013. Bohemia’s contributions extended to Coke Studio Pakistan, where he was invited to participate in its fifth season, becoming the first rap artist to be featured. His work in the film industry includes performing title tracks for major Bollywood films like “Chandni Chowk To China” (2009) and “8 x 10 Tasveer,” both starring Akshay Kumar. In 2015, he launched Kali Denali Music with J.Hind, a venture that further expanded his influence in the music business, though he later departed the company. Bohemia continued to release music, with his fifth studio album, “Skull & Bones: The Final Chapter,” in 2017, and “I Am I.C.O.N” in 2022, followed by “Rap Star Reloaded” in 2024.
