Friendzone, an influential American instrumental hip-hop duo, emerged from the vibrant East Bay, California music scene in 2010. Comprising talented producers Dylan Reznick and James Laurence, the duo quickly gained recognition for their unique sound that blended elements of alternative hip-hop, cloud rap, and chillwave. Their early work, including the production of Main Attrakionz’s tracks “Chuch” and “Perfect Skies” on the 2011 mixtape *808s & Dark Grapes II*, showcased their innovative approach to beat-making and set the stage for their future successes.

In 2013, Friendzone achieved a significant milestone by producing “Fashion Killa” for ASAP Rocky’s debut album *Long. Live. ASAP*. This collaboration not only elevated their profile within the industry but also demonstrated their ability to create compelling beats that resonate with a wide audience. That same year, they released their debut album *DX*, which featured the standout track “Poly,” further solidifying their reputation as leading figures in the instrumental hip-hop genre.

The duo continued to thrive, releasing the EP *While U Wait* in 2015 and producing the entirety of Main Attrakionz’s *808s & Dark Grapes III*. Their work was characterized by a distinctive sound that combined lush melodies with intricate rhythms, appealing to both hip-hop enthusiasts and casual listeners alike.

Tragically, the duo’s journey was cut short with the untimely passing of James Laurence in January 2017. However, Friendzone’s legacy endures through their innovative contributions to music, inspiring a new generation of artists and producers in the hip-hop landscape.
