Buck Meek

Alexander Buckley “Buck” Meek was born on July 10, 1987, in Wimberley, Texas. His early exposure to music included playing blues and folk genres at local venues. Meek attended Berklee College of Music, where he developed his musical skills, though he formed Big Thief after graduation. Following his time at Berklee, Meek moved to New York City, where he busked in subway stations at 14th Street-Union Square and Bedford Avenue to support himself. This period of early musical development and living in New York City laid essential groundwork for his subsequent career.

In 2014, Meek collaborated with Adrianne Lenker, releasing two EPs titled “a-sides” and “b-sides.” The following year, he co-founded Big Thief with Lenker and Max Oleartchik. Big Thief has since released five studio albums, achieving critical acclaim, with their 2019 album “U.F.O.F.” receiving a Grammy Award nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. Meek also embarked on a solo career, releasing his self-titled debut album in May 2018, followed by “Two Saviors” in January 2021, and “Haunted Mountain” in August 2023. “Two Saviors” was recorded in New Orleans, LA, with producer Andrew Sarlo, who also worked on Big Thief’s studio albums.

Meek has expanded his work beyond traditional album releases. In 2021, he appeared in “Shadow Kingdom: The Early Songs of Bob Dylan,” a concert film directed by Alma Har’el. His career trajectory demonstrates consistent musical output, both independently and as a key member of Big Thief, contributing to the band’s critical recognition and his own artistic development.
