Earl Sweatshirt, born Thebe Neruda Kgositsile, is an American rapper and record producer who has cultivated a distinct style within hip-hop, characterized by intricate lyricism and unconventional production. After captivating critics with his independent mixtape Earl in 2010 and sparking the viral ‘Free Earl’ movement, Earl Sweatshirt quickly established himself as a distinctive voice in hip-hop. His professional journey began earlier, self-releasing tracks from his mixtape Kitchen Cutlery on MySpace in 2007, before his career took a pivotal turn in late 2009 when Tyler, the Creator invited him to join the alternative hip-hop collective Odd Future. Following the acclaim for Earl, he returned to Los Angeles in February 2012 after time abroad from 2010-2012, rejoining Odd Future and securing a recording contract with Columbia Records under his imprint Tan Cressida.

In 2024, Earl Sweatshirt utilized his platform for social impact, performing at the Artists for Aid benefit concert, supporting humanitarian efforts in Gaza Strip and Sudan.
