About

Caitlyn Elizabeth Smith was born on June 13, 1986, in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. She later moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where she established herself as a singer and songwriter. Smith’s musical journey began primarily as a songwriter, contributing to numerous tracks for established artists. Her compositions have achieved notable success, including Meghan Trainor’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You,” which featured John Legend and reached number one on the Billboard Adult Top 40 chart. She also co-wrote “You Can’t Make Old Friends” for Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, and “High” for Miley Cyrus. These early achievements solidified her reputation as a skilled and versatile songwriter in the music industry.

In 2016, Caitlyn Smith released her EP, “Starfire,” which led to her signing a label deal with the newly reformed Monument Records in January 2017. Her debut album, also titled “Starfire,” was released on January 19, 2018, marking her official emergence as a solo artist. The album garnered critical attention, and Smith was recognized by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of their “10 New Artists You Need To Know.” She continued to build her solo discography with “Supernova” in 2020 and “High & Low” in 2023, the latter being a self-produced effort that further showcased her artistic control. Her live performances have included appearances at major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bourbon & Beyond Festival, Americana Fest, and ACL Fest, and she has toured with artists like George Strait, Reba, Little Big Town, and Old Dominion.

Smith’s career progression highlights a successful transition from behind-the-scenes songwriting to a respected performing artist. She has appeared on national television shows including “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “The TODAY Show,” and “CBS This Morning.” A significant milestone in her career includes winning Best Original Song at the 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards for “Glasgow (No Place Like Home)” from the film “Wild Rose.” She has also received nominations for prestigious awards, including Breakthrough Video of the Year at the 2022 CMT Music Awards and New Female Artist of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards in both 2022 and 2023. These accolades underscore her impact and recognition within the country music genre.
