Dora Jarkowski, known professionally as Dora Jar, was born on October 12, 1996, in New York City, and spent her formative years in Northern California, specifically Berkeley and Burlingame, after moving from NYC at age four. Immersed in music from a young age, her mother’s singing and diverse musical influences, ranging from Stephen Sondheim musicals to Foo Fighters and Outkast, shaped her early artistic development. At 14, Jar began learning guitar, contributing to her distinct musical style. After attending Choate Rosemary Hall and briefly studying at a music school in Boston, she lived in various cities including New York, London, and Poland, experiences that further influenced her creative perspective. Her career officially began in 2021 with the release of her debut extended play, “Digital Meadow”.
“Digital Meadow”, a seven-song collection, showcased Jar’s signature dreamy, surrealist pop sound and ethereal vocals. Produced in collaboration with Solomonophonic and featuring other artists like Felix Joseph and Ralph Castelli, the EP marked her entry into the music scene. Following this, she opened for The Neighbourhood’s 2021 tour, gaining wider exposure. In 2022, she released her second EP, “Comfortably In Pain”, which garnered critical acclaim from publications such as Pitchfork and NPR, drawing comparisons to artists like Faye Webster and St. Vincent. This period also saw her performing at The Great Escape festival and supporting Billie Eilish on multiple dates of her 2022 “Happier Than Ever, The World Tour”.

She subsequently released singles “Bumblebee”, “Bump”, and “Spell”, and announced her first North American headlining tour.
