Freya Ridings

Freya Olivia Rose Ridings was born on April 18, 1994, in Enfield, London, UK. She is the daughter of actor Richard Ridings and developed an early interest in music, learning guitar by observing her father. Ridings attended St Christopher School in Letchworth and later the BRIT School from the age of 16, an institution known for its distinguished musical alumni such as Adele and Amy Winehouse. These early educational experiences laid the foundation for her professional music career. Ridings has also publicly discussed her experience with dyslexia.

Ridings began her professional career by supporting various artists, including Gavin James, Tears for Fears, Tash Sultana, and Lewis Capaldi, throughout 2017. Her debut single, “Blackout,” was released on May 5, 2017, followed by a cover of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Maps” on June 30, 2017. A significant turning point in her career occurred with the release of “Lost Without You” on November 3, 2017. The song gained considerable traction after being featured on the reality show ‘Love Island’ in July 2018, leading it to peak at number 9 on the UK Singles Chart and achieving triple Platinum certification from the BPI. Her self-titled debut album, released on July 19, 2019, reached number 3 on the UK Albums Chart and included the hit single “Castles,” which also charted internationally.

Her career progression continued with international performances, including a tour in Australia in March 2020. Freya Ridings collaborated with artists such as MJ Cole and later signed a global publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing. Her second studio album, “Blood Orange,” released on April 28, 2023, reached number 7 in the UK and saw her single “Weekends” enter the Top 40. In June 2023, she co-wrote and performed “Rise” for the film “Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken.” Her song “I Can’t Hear It Now” was featured in the animated series ‘Arcane’ in November 2024, and she is slated to release her third album, “Mother of Pearl,” in May 2026.
