Charlie Wilson is a celebrated R&B, funk, and soul singer, songwriter, and record producer, known for his dynamic career spanning decades, both as the lead vocalist of The Gap Band and as a successful solo artist. After co-founding The Gap Band with his brothers in 1967, Charlie Wilson, celebrated R&B, funk, and soul singer, songwriter, and producer, quickly established a dynamic career. The band released their debut album, ‘Magicians Holiday,’ in 1974 and went on to produce hits including ‘Outstanding,’ ‘Party Train,’ ‘Yearning for Your Love,’ ‘Burn Rubber on Me,’ ‘You Dropped a Bomb on Me,’ and ‘Oops Upside Your Head.’ These tracks have become some of the most sampled songs in music history, leading to The Gap Band’s induction as BMI Icons in 2005. The band disbanded in 2010 after 15 albums.
He also serves as the national spokesman for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, raising awareness and contributing to cancer research efforts, especially for Black men. Wilson joined Bruno Mars on the final leg of the 24K Magic Tour in 2018 and lent his backing vocals to Tyler, the Creator’s album ‘Igor’ in 2019. He also performed alongside Tyler, the Creator and Boyz II Men at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2020. That same year, he was featured on Aminé’s ‘Roots’ and Nas’ ‘Car #85.’ In 2024, he competed as ‘Ugly Sweater’ on ‘The Masked Singer.’ Wilson released the duet ‘Once Upon a Bottle of Wine’ with Scotty McCreery in 2025.
