City of the Sun, an American acoustic post-rock duo originating from the Upper East Side of New York City in 2011, is comprised of guitarist John Pita and drummer Zach Para. The band initially included vocalist Troubadour Adam Road until 2014, and guitarist Avi Snow, who joined in 2012. Their distinctive musical style, which blends post-rock, gypsy jazz, flamenco, and indie rock, was developed while busking on the streets of New York. This street-level exposure led to an invitation to perform at the 2013 TED conference, followed by performances at regional TEDx events, marking early career milestones.
In 2014, City of the Sun released their live EP, ‘Live at the Factory’. The band signed with Chesky Records in 2015, leading to the release of their full-length debut album, ‘To the Sun and All the Cities in Between’, in March 2016. This album achieved commercial recognition by debuting at No. 12 on the Billboard jazz charts. Following a European tour in 2017, they released the ‘Untitled’ EP, with the track ‘Firefly’ premiering on Billboard. Their second full-length album, ‘City of the Sun’, was released in 2020. The band is also recognized for their collaborative work with producer Damien Taylor (known for his work with Björk, Arcade Fire, The Killers, and Robyn) in 2019, further developing their sound.
