Cloves

Kaity Dunstan, professionally known as Cloves, was born on February 25, 1996, in Melbourne, Australia. She began her musical journey early, performing in local dive bars alongside her older sister and bandmates starting at the age of 13. Her early influences included artists such as Amy Winehouse, Etta James, and Fiona Apple. In 2013, at the age of 17, she participated in the second season of The Voice Australia as Kaity Dunstan. During her appearance, she performed covers like Melanie Safka’s “Brand New Key,” which reached number 40 on the ARIA singles chart, and Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Following her time on The Voice, Dunstan adopted the stage name Cloves and began her solo career in 2015. She released her debut track “Frail Love,” followed by the single “Don’t You Wait.” Her first EP, “XIII,” was released in November 2015 through Universal Music Australia. This EP featured “Don’t Forget About Me,” a song later included in the soundtrack for the 2016 film “Me Before You.” Cloves performed at significant music festivals in 2016, including Coachella and Lollapalooza, marking her presence on the international stage.

Her debut album, “One Big Nothing,” was released in September 2018, expanding her sound with a backing band after several singles like “Better Now” (2016), “California Numb” (2017), and “Bringing the House Down” (2018). In 2019, she released a cover of “Blowin’ in the Wind.” Cloves continued to evolve her musical style, incorporating alt-pop production in her 2020 single “Dead,” which was part of her second full-length album, “Nightmare on Elmfield Road,” released in 2021 with production from contributors such as Hudson Mohawke and Clarence Coffee, Jr. She has continued to release EPs, including “HER” in 2023 and “Bittersweet Melancholia” in 2025, alongside various singles and collaborations.
