Clannad

Clannad is an Irish band that gained international recognition for pioneering Celtic music, blending traditional Irish sounds with electronic elements and vocal harmonies, leading to multi-platinum success and numerous awards. After winning the Slógadh Youth Festival competition in 1970 and securing a recording contract with Polydor Records, Clannad released their debut album, ‘Clannad,’ in 1973. The group, founded by Ciarán, Pól, and Máire Brennan, and Noel and Pádraig Duggan, quickly established a unique sound, pioneering Celtic music by blending traditional Irish sounds with electronic elements and vocal harmonies. This innovative approach laid the groundwork for their multi-platinum success and numerous awards, setting a new benchmark for traditional music.

Clannad embarked on a farewell tour, culminating in a final concert at the Royal Albert Hall in October 2024. Their remarkable legacy is defined by their instrumental role in introducing Irish music and the Irish language to a worldwide audience, performing across six different languages. Over their extensive career, the group has accumulated a prestigious collection of accolades, including Grammy, BAFTA, and Ivor Novello Awards, solidifying their status as pioneers of the Celtic music genre.
