Andrea De Filippi, professionally known as Alfa, was born on August 22, 2000, in Genoa, Italy, and grew up in the Quarto dei Mille district. From a young age, Alfa displayed a natural aptitude for music, beginning to play the guitar, ukulele, and piano at age eight. During his adolescence, he participated in various freestyle competitions in his hometown, which further honed his craft. Despite initially intending to pursue a medical career and later enrolling in economics and management at Bocconi University, Alfa ultimately dedicated himself to his musical aspirations. He has candidly spoken about overcoming shyness and bullying during his youth, finding solace and expression through his music.
Alfa’s career officially began in 2017 with the release of his mixtapes, “Mondo Immobile Mixtape” and “Alfa-Omega.” His breakthrough came with successful singles like “Dove sei?” (certified Gold) and “Cin cin” (certified 4x Platinum), which contributed to his debut album “Before Wanderlust” achieving Platinum status in 2019. He has consistently released music, including the popular track “Sul più bello (Out of My League)” which served as the soundtrack for the film of the same name and earned a Platinum certification and a nomination for Best Original Song at the Nastro d’argento awards. His second album, “Nord,” was released in 2021, and he embarked on his first major tour, the “Tra le nuvole tour,” in 2022.
The year 2024 marked a significant milestone with his participation in the 74th Sanremo Music Festival, where his song “Vai!” placed tenth and also achieved double Platinum status. Immediately following this, he released his third studio album, “Non so chi ha creato il mondo ma so che era innamorato.” The deluxe edition of this album, released in 2025, topped the FIMI Album Chart. Alfa continued to achieve chart success with singles like “Bellissimissima” (5x Platinum) and “Il filo rosso” (2x Platinum), which reached number one in Italy. His collaboration with Manu Chao on “A me mi piace” in 2025 also secured a number one spot and won the Power Hits Estate award. In 2025, Alfa released his first live album, “Allo stesso BPM! (Alfa Live nei palazzetti),” documenting his extensive touring. He also appeared as a guest at the 76th Sanremo Music Festival in 2026, performing with Enrico Nigiotti.
