About

Colbie Caillat was born in Malibu, California, on May 28, 1985, and grew up in Newbury Park, California. Her father, Ken Caillat, co-produced several of Fleetwood Mac’s albums, including ‘Rumours’ (1977) and ‘Tusk’ (1979). Caillat began piano lessons as a child and later took vocal lessons after being inspired by Lauryn Hill’s performance in ‘Sister Act 2’ at age 11. She started playing acoustic guitar at 19 and recorded her first song with producer Mikal Blue. Despite being rejected twice from ‘American Idol’, including once when she performed her original song “Bubbly,” Caillat found early recognition through Myspace, where she became the number-one unsigned artist in her genre for four consecutive months.

Caillat signed with Universal Republic Records and released her debut studio album, ‘Coco’, in 2007. The album, featuring the singles “Bubbly” and “Realize,” peaked at number five on the Billboard 200 and achieved double platinum certification from the RIAA. Her collaboration with Jason Mraz, “Lucky,” won Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2010. Her second album, ‘Breakthrough’ (2009), debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album. She also earned an Album of the Year Grammy for her contributions to Taylor Swift’s ‘Fearless’ (2008). In 2010, Caillat became BMI’s Songwriter of the Year and performed at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert.

Her third album, ‘All of You’, was released in 2011, followed by a Christmas album, ‘Christmas in the Sand’, in 2012. In 2014, she released ‘Gypsy Heart’, which included the platinum-selling single “Try.” The song’s empowering message and accompanying music video garnered significant attention, with the video amassing 90 million views. In 2016, Caillat launched her independent label, PlummyLou Records, and released ‘The Malibu Sessions’. From 2018 to 2020, she was part of the country music quartet Gone West. In 2021, she rerecorded her vocals for Taylor Swift’s “Breathe” on ‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’. Her debut solo country album, ‘Along the Way’, was released in 2023, and her eighth studio album, ‘This Time Around’, is scheduled for release in 2025.
