Culture Beat is a German Eurodance project renowned for its impactful contributions to the genre, achieving international commercial success with numerous chart-topping singles and albums. After achieving monumental international success with their 1993 single ‘Mr. Vain,’ German Eurodance project Culture Beat went on to solidify its position as a global phenomenon within the genre. Established in 1989, Culture Beat quickly made its mark on the international music scene.
Vain’ earned triple Gold certification in Germany for selling over 750,000 units and achieved Gold status in several other countries, including the US. Subsequent singles ‘Got to Get It’ and ‘Anything’ also became widespread European hits. Their second album, ‘Serenity,’ sold over two million copies in 1994, earning the ECHO award for ‘Best-selling German Act Abroad,’ while founder Torsten Fenslau was honored with ‘Best Producer of the Year.’ Following Fenslau’s passing in November 1993, his brother Frank Fenslau assumed management of the group. In 1995, Culture Beat released their third album, ‘Inside Out,’ featuring the titular single which reached number 5 in Germany and number 32 in the UK.
By 2001, Jacky Sangster became the fourth female lead singer, with their single ‘Insanity’ topping the charts in Israel. A 2003 re-release, ‘Mr. Vain Recall,’ further demonstrated their enduring appeal by reaching number 7 in Germany. Culture Beat continued its prolific output with the 2013 compilation album, ‘The Loungin’ Side of.’ Today, the iconic German Eurodance project remains a highly sought-after act, continuing to perform at various 90s revival events globally, captivating audiences with their timeless hits alongside current lead singer Jacky Sangster and MC 4T.
