Alana Mychal Haim was born on December 15, 1991, in Los Angeles, California. She grew up in a musical family, with her father, Moti Haim, an Israeli-born retired professional soccer player, and her mother, Donna Rose, a former elementary school art teacher and folk singer. The family would often perform together as Rockinhaim, playing ’70s and ’80s rock covers at local events starting in 2000. Alana attended Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and briefly Los Angeles Valley College before committing to her music career.
In 2007, Alana, alongside her older sisters Este and Danielle, formed the band HAIM. Their musical journey began with the release of their EP ‘Forever’ in 2012, which led to them being signed by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label the same year. Their debut studio album, ‘Days Are Gone,’ released in September 2013, achieved commercial success. They continued to release impactful music, including ‘Something to Tell You’ in 2017 and ‘Women in Music, Pt. III’ in 2020, with the latter earning a Grammy Award nomination for Album of the Year.
Alana Haim expanded her career into acting with her critically acclaimed debut in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2021 film ‘Licorice Pizza.’ Her performance garnered widespread recognition, leading to nominations for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical and a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She has since taken on roles in additional film projects such as ‘The Mastermind’ (2025), ‘One Battle After Another’ (2025), and is slated to appear in ‘The Drama’ (2026).
