Dehd is a dynamic three-piece indie rock band hailing from Chicago, formed in 2015. The group consists of talented musicians Emily Kempf, Jason Balla, and Eric McGrady, who have collectively carved out a unique sound that resonates with audiences. Initially conceived as a side project, Dehd quickly evolved from its roots in the Dream Eagles and Heavy Dreams into a distinct entity, showcasing their creative synergy and passion for music.
In 2016, Dehd made their debut with a self-titled album released through Maximum Pelt, which laid the groundwork for their burgeoning career. The following year, they produced the EP “Fire of Love,” further solidifying their presence in the indie rock scene. Their commitment to authenticity was evident when they self-recorded their music in a historic Frank Lloyd Wright warehouse, demonstrating their resourcefulness and dedication to their craft.
The band’s sophomore album, “Water,” released in May 2019, marked a significant milestone, featuring the track “Wild,” which gained exposure through its inclusion in the popular series Charmed. Their international tour in support of fellow Chicago band Twin Peaks showcased their growing popularity and ability to connect with audiences across Europe.
In July 2020, Dehd released “Flower of Devotion,” which received widespread critical acclaim, including a “best new music” designation from Pitchfork. Their continued evolution is evident with the release of singles like “Bad Love” in 2022 and their upcoming album “Poetry” in 2024, ensuring that Dehd remains a vital force in the indie rock landscape.
