Stooshe

Stooshe, composed of Alexandra Buggs, Karis Anderson, and Courtney Rumbold, formed in May 2010 in London. The group signed with Warner Music in August 2011, embarking on a path to cultivate an urban and soulful identity. Their formative period involved extensive development of their artistic style, supported by production duo Future Cut. The band’s name, originating from urban slang for something expensive or a girl with an inflated self-perception, was combined with ‘she’ to signify female empowerment, reflecting their artistic stance and identity.

In 2012, Stooshe gained recognition with their debut single “Love Me,” featuring American rapper Travie McCoy, which reached number five on the UK Singles Chart. The group’s success continued with “Black Heart,” peaking at number three, and a cover of TLC’s “Waterfalls.” That same year, they were nominated for the BBC’s Sound of 2012 poll. Their debut album, “London with the Lights On,” was released on May 27, 2013, and entered the UK Albums Chart at number eight. Following disagreements with their record label regarding the album’s performance, Stooshe transitioned to working independently in autumn 2013.

Stooshe continued to release new music, including “Lock Down” on January 15, 2016, and “Let It Go” on July 1, 2016, both intended for their unreleased second album. They have also supported notable artists such as Nicki Minaj on the UK leg of the Pink Friday Tour in June 2012 and Jennifer Lopez on the European leg of the Dance Again World Tour in October 2012. Their work has earned them multiple nominations, including Best British Single at the 2013 Brit Awards for “Black Heart” and several nominations at the 4Music Video Honours and MOBO Awards in 2012.
