Dinner Party

Dinner Party is a supergroup formed by musicians Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, and 9th Wonder. The group recorded their self-titled debut EP in 2019 at Chalice Recording Studios in Los Angeles. The EP, released on July 10, 2020, via Sounds Of Crenshaw and Empire, features guest appearances from Chicago-based musician Phoelix. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard Top Contemporary Jazz Albums and number two on the Top Jazz Albums, reaching number fifty-five on the Top Album Sales chart. The project received generally favorable reviews from critics, with a Metacritic score of 74/100.

Following their initial success, Dinner Party released a remix EP titled “Dinner Party: Dessert” on October 9, 2020. This follow-up project featured a wider range of guest artists including Buddy, Punch, Bilal, Rapsody, and Snoop Dogg, contributing to remixed versions of the original seven tracks. “Dinner Party: Dessert” was nominated for Best Progressive R&B Album at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, highlighting the group’s continued impact and critical recognition.

The group announced their first official album, “Watchu Bringing?”, set to be released on August 7. This album will feature the lead single “If It Ain’t Broke (Love Wins)” and continues their collaborative efforts, with artwork designed by Amani Washington, sister of Kamasi Washington. Dinner Party maintains a consistent creative output, blending individual talents into cohesive projects that explore and expand the boundaries of contemporary jazz and hip-hop.
