Singer and songwriter with an impressive lineage and a folk-pop style who scored a major hit with 1998's "Save Tonight."
Eagle-Eye Lanoo Cherry was born on May 7, 1968, in Stockholm, Sweden, to American jazz artist Don Cherry and Swedish artist Moki Cherry. Growing up, he spent his early childhood in Sweden and traveled with his father. At the age of 12, he moved to New York City for school and later enrolled in the High School of Performing Arts at 16, studying alongside notable figures like Jennifer Aniston and Chaz Bono. During his time in New York, he also pursued acting, appearing as “Teenager” in the 1988 film “Arthur 2: On the Rocks” and as “Vet #1” in “Born on the Fourth of July” in 1989. He also had a role in the short-lived NBC television series “South Beach” in 1993 and a guest appearance on “The Cosby Show.” Concurrently, Cherry developed a passion for music, taking up drums and later exploring keyboards and songwriting.
Following his father’s passing in 1995, Cherry relocated to Stockholm to shift his focus from acting to music. He began writing and recording songs for his debut album, “Desireless,” in his home studio, playing an acoustic guitar. The album was released in 1997 and achieved significant international success, selling four million copies worldwide and earning platinum certification in the United States. His breakthrough single, “Save Tonight,” topped both the Mainstream Top 40 and Adult Alternative Songs charts and was voted song of the year in New Zealand. This success established his musical career, leading to subsequent albums such as “Living in the Present Future” (2000) and “Sub Rosa” (2003).
Throughout his career, Cherry has contributed to various film soundtracks, including “For Love of the Game” (1999), “Y tu mamá también” (2001), “A Lot Like Love” (2005), and “Holes” (2003). He also collaborated with Santana on their 1999 album “Supernatural,” co-writing and performing on the track “Wishing It Was.” He continued to release music, including “Can’t Get Enough” (2012) and “Streets of You” (2018), and appeared as a musical guest on “The Voice of Romania” in 2012. His most recent album, “Back on Track,” was released in 2023, featuring singles like “I Like It.”
