Ed Roland is a singer, musician, and songwriter known for his foundational role in Collective Soul and his dedication to music production. After honing his craft as a lead engineer and producer at Real 2 Reel Studios in Stockbridge, Georgia, for eight years, Ed Roland established Collective Soul, independently releasing their debut album ‘Hints, Allegations & Things Left Unsaid’ in 1993. Roland had previously cultivated his musical talents, studying songwriting and guitar at Berklee College of Music, and was deeply involved in the local Georgia music scene, notably joining bands such as Ed-E in 1985 and Marching Two-Step throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s. During this formative period, he also released the independent album ‘Ed-E Roland’ in 1991, which notably showcased his comprehensive skills in composing, recording, and producing original music.

The independent release of ‘Hints, Allegations & Things Left Unsaid’ quickly gained significant momentum when the track ‘Shine’ garnered widespread traction on college radio, directly leading to Collective Soul’s signing with Atlantic Records in 1993. The breakthrough success of ‘Shine’ propelled ‘Hints, Allegations & Things Left Unsaid’ to a worldwide re-release in 1994, firmly establishing Collective Soul’s international profile. While continuing his foundational role as lead vocalist and primary songwriter for Collective Soul, Roland also ventured into new creative projects. In 2011, he founded the side project Ed Roland and the Sweet Tea Project, which subsequently released its debut album, ‘Devils ‘n Darlins,’ in 2013.

Most recently, Ed Roland spearheaded Collective Soul’s latest album, ‘Vibrating,’ released in 2022, further solidifying the bands ongoing relevance. As a distinguished singer, musician, and primary songwriter, Roland remains a pivotal and influential figure in rock music, consistently recognized for his dedication to comprehensive music production and his steady output of impactful and acclaimed albums across his various projects.
