Ed Roland

Edgar Eugene Roland, Jr. is a celebrated American musician renowned for his role as the lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the rock band Collective Soul. His journey into the music industry began with a profound influence from Elton John’s Greatest Hits, which sparked his passion for rock music. After honing his skills in songwriting and guitar at Berklee College of Music, Roland gained invaluable experience as the lead engineer and producer at Real 2 Reel Studios in Georgia. This foundation paved the way for his future successes.

In the late 1980s, Roland formed several bands, ultimately leading to the creation of Collective Soul. Initially struggling to find success, the band independently released their debut album, Hints, Allegations & Things Left Unsaid, which featured the hit single “Shine.” This track garnered significant airplay on college radio, leading to a major label contract with Atlantic Records. The re-release of their debut album in 1994 marked a turning point, propelling Collective Soul into the mainstream and establishing them as a prominent force in rock music.

Beyond Collective Soul, Roland has pursued solo projects, including Ed Roland and the Sweet Tea Project, which showcases his versatility as an artist. The Sweet Tea Project’s debut album, Devils ‘n Darlins, was well-received, further demonstrating his songwriting prowess. In addition, he recorded a solo album, Anniversary, celebrating his personal milestones while continuing to produce music with Collective Soul.
