Edgar Meyer is an acclaimed bassist and composer, recognized for his versatility across classical, bluegrass, newgrass, and jazz genres, and a recipient of seven Grammy Awards. After graduating from the Indiana University School of Music with a Bachelor of Music in 1984, seven-time Grammy Award winner Edgar Meyer quickly established himself as a versatile bassist and composer, effortlessly bridging classical, bluegrass, newgrass, and jazz genres. He debuted with the album ‘Unfolding’ in 1986, swiftly followed by ‘Dreams of Flight’ (1987), ‘Love of a Lifetime’ (1988), ‘Work in Progress’ (1990), and ‘Skip, Hop, and Wobble’ (1993). His collaborative spirit became evident with the release of the critically acclaimed ‘Appalachia Waltz’ alongside Yo-Yo Ma and Mark O’Connor in 1996, and ‘Uncommon Ritual’ with Béla Fleck and Mike Marshall in 1997, showcasing his unique ability to transcend traditional musical boundaries.
His recent work includes the album ‘As We Speak’ (2023) and ‘But Who’s Gonna Play the Melody?’ with Christian McBride (2024).
