Half Moon Run is a celebrated Canadian indie rock band based in Montreal, Quebec, known for their innovative sound characterized by layered percussion and rich vocal harmonies. Formed in 2009 by Conner Molander and Dylan Phillips, the band quickly gained traction after recruiting Devon Portielje through a Craigslist ad. Their debut album, “Dark Eyes,” released in March 2012, showcased their unique style and received critical acclaim, leading to extensive touring across Europe, Australia, and North America.
In 2014, Half Moon Run began work on their sophomore album, “Sun Leads Me On,” which was released in October 2015. The album’s success was marked by a European tour and the band receiving the International Achievement Award at the Francophone SOCAN Awards. Their third album, “A Blemish in the Great Light,” released in November 2019, won the Adult Alternative Album of the Year at the Juno Awards in 2020, solidifying their status in the Canadian music scene.
The COVID-19 pandemic prompted the band to adapt creatively, leading to the release of new singles and the innovative “Covideo Sessions” in 2020. This period also saw the departure of Isaac Symonds, yet the band continued to thrive, releasing the EP “Inwards & Onwards” in June 2021 and a compilation album later that year.
In 2023, Half Moon Run released their fourth studio album, “Salt,” alongside a series of singles that showcased their evolving sound. Their commitment to musical excellence and engaging performances continues to resonate with audiences, making them a prominent force in the indie rock genre.
