Hamilton Leithauser gained significant recognition as the lead vocalist of The Walkmen, an American indie rock band he co-founded in 2000. Prior to this, Leithauser’s musical career began in 1996 as vocalist and guitarist for The Recoys, who released an EP and an LP, with several tracks later re-recorded by The Walkmen. He also contributed to the music industry by helping to engineer Fugazi’s album ‘Red Medicine’ at Inner Ear Studios. As frontman for The Walkmen, Leithauser established a distinct sound across seven studio albums released between 2000 and 2014, including their debut ‘Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone’ and the acclaimed ‘Bows + Arrows’ in 2004.
That same year, he released ‘Live! at Café Carlyle,’ a live album capturing intimate performances of both covers and his original material, further cementing his reputation for distinctive indie-rock vocals. Looking ahead, Leithauser is set to release new music in 2025, starting with the single ‘Knockin’ Heart.’ This will be followed by his highly anticipated solo album, ‘This Side of the Island,’ demonstrating his ongoing artistic prolificacy and commitment to delivering compelling new work to his dedicated fanbase. With a career spanning over two decades as both a band frontman and a solo artist, Hamilton Leithauser remains a distinctive voice in indie rock.
