Intocable, an American Tejano and Norteño band from Zapata, Texas, was founded in the early 1990s by friends Ricardo Javier Muñoz and René Orlando Martínez. The band quickly established itself as a pioneer in the fusion of Tejano and Norteño music, creating a unique sound characterized by romantic melodies, tight instrumentation, and vocal harmony. Their innovative approach has set a standard for many Tejano bands, making them one of the most influential groups in the genre.
Throughout their career, Intocable has achieved remarkable milestones, including four consecutive sold-out nights at Mexico City’s prestigious Auditorio Nacional and a record-breaking performance at Reliant Stadium in Houston, drawing over 70,000 fans. Their annual tradition of sold-out shows at Monterrey Arena further solidifies their status, as they consistently attract large audiences, a rarity for Norteño groups. The band has also garnered numerous accolades, including eight Premio Lo Nuestro awards and two Grammy Awards for Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album and Best Norteño Album.
In addition to their musical achievements, Intocable has made significant contributions to charitable causes. In 2015, they streamed a global showcase to raise funds for St. Jude Hospital, marking a first-of-its-kind partnership in the music industry. Their commitment to philanthropy continued with their participation in SXSW 2016, where they headlined a charity concert series, attracting over 50,000 attendees.
Despite facing challenges, including a tragic van accident in 1999 that claimed the lives of two band members, Intocable has persevered and continued to thrive. Their resilience is reflected in their successful comeback album, “Contigo,” and their ongoing popularity, with numerous top-ten hits on Billboard Latin charts. Intocable remains a beloved and influential force in the Tejano and Norteño music scene, captivating audiences with their heartfelt performances and dedication to their craft.
