Jenny And The Mexicats

Jenny And The Mexicats, initially known as Pachucos y la Princesa, formed in June 2008 in Madrid, Spain. The band consists of English trumpeter and singer Jenny Ball, Spanish percussionist David González Bernardos, and Mexican musicians Pantera (Alfonso Acosta) on guitar and Icho (Luis Díaz) on double bass. Their musical style is a fusion of flamenco, jazz, folk, and cumbia, incorporating both English and Spanish lyrics. The band operates as an independent entity, managing their own record label, Mexicat Records, which they founded in 2012. Following their formation, the group relocated to Mexico City, where they released their self-titled debut album on their independent label in 2012.

Throughout their career, Jenny And The Mexicats have released several studio albums, including “Ome” (2014), “Mar abierto/Open Sea” (2017), “Ten Spins Round the Sun” (2018), and “Fiesta Ancestral” (2019). Their discography also includes numerous singles such as “Verde más allá,” “Me voy a ir,” and “Labios.” They have collaborated with various artists, including Mr. Kilombo in 2014, Mario Sandoval in 2015, and Grupo Cañaveral in 2016. The band gained recognition, winning the Los Guilles award for Best World Music or Musical Hybrid in 2012 and receiving a nomination for Best Mexican Act at Los Premios 40 Principales in 2014.

Jenny And The Mexicats have expanded their international presence with performances such as their Tiny Desk Concert in March 2018 and appearances on NPR’s Alt.Latino. The band’s multicultural background influences their sound and language, with their music being presented in both English and Spanish. They made their SXSW debut, and have toured across the UK, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, and Andorra.
