Eric Estornel, known professionally as Maceo Plex, Maetrik, and Mariel Ito, was born on November 6, 1978. Raised in Dallas and Miami, Estornel embarked on his musical journey in 1993, which eventually led him to become a prominent figure in the global electronic music scene. His production style is characterized by a blend of house, techno, electro, and tech house elements, showcasing a broad musical range. Throughout his career, he has released prolifically on various respected labels and is recognized as a DJ Awards winner.
A significant milestone in Estornel’s career includes his consistent presence in Ibiza’s top clubs, such as the former Space and Amnesia. In 2016, he launched his own summer club night, “Mosaic by Maceo,” at Pacha. His third studio album, “Solar,” released in July 2017 on his electronica-based label Lone Romantic, was a conceptual project named after his son. This album aimed to forge a deeper connection with his audience by combining ambient electronica, breakbeats, melodies, dub, and techno, featuring guest vocalists. Following this, he released “The Return” two-track EP under Clash Lion Records in September 2017, marking his first release as Maetrik since 2012.
In spring 2018, Estornel contributed to the esteemed fabric mix series with “fabric98,” acknowledging his work under various aliases over two decades. His album “Mutant Series” was released in March 2019 on Ellum Audio. In 2021, he remixed Faithless’ iconic 1995 song “Insomnia.” His latest album, “’93,” released on Lone Romantic in 2023, was a retrospective project celebrating three decades of his musical involvement, showcasing a variety of genres including house, techno, garage, breaks, and hip-hop, and featured collaborations with artists like Perry Farrell. Maceo Plex currently resides in Barcelona, Spain.
