John Maus

John Maus is an American musician, composer, singer, and academic known for his distinct synth-pop sound and philosophical approach to music. After achieving significant critical acclaim with his third album, We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves in 2011, John Maus solidified his position as a distinctive outsider artist. This pivotal release garnered widespread positive attention and led to a re-evaluation of his earlier works, Songs (2006) and Love Is Real (2007). Maus’s unique synth-pop sound began to take shape during his studies in experimental music composition at the California Institute of the Arts, which he attended starting in 1998 and from which he earned his B.A.

in 2003.
