Jonathan David Bellion was born on December 26, 1990, in Lake Grove, New York. From an early age, he balanced his interests in basketball and music, eventually choosing to pursue music during his high school years. After attending Five Towns College for a period, Bellion decided to leave and focus on professional songwriting at the age of 19. He secured a deal with Kara DioGuardi’s publishing company, where he developed his skills in writing across multiple genres, including rock and hip hop, for diverse artists.
Bellion’s career gained significant momentum with the release of his mixtapes, starting with “Scattered Thoughts Vol. 1” in 2011. He signed with Visionary Music Group in 2012. A major breakthrough occurred when he co-wrote the chorus for Eminem’s Grammy Award-winning song “The Monster,” featuring Rihanna, in 2012. He further expanded his songwriting and production credits by working on Jason Derulo’s “Trumpets.” His debut studio album, “The Human Condition,” was released in 2016, featuring the commercially successful single “All Time Low,” which achieved Double-platinum status in the US and Australia and peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. This album also showed his ambition to work with Pixar, and he later met with representatives from the company.
Following the success of his debut, Bellion released his second studio album, “Glory Sound Prep,” in 2018. Over the subsequent years, he intensified his focus on producing and writing for other prominent artists. His contributions include co-writing and co-producing for Jung Kook, Jimin, Maroon 5, Justin Bieber, the Jonas Brothers, Halsey, Camila Cabello, Selena Gomez, and Tori Kelly. He played a significant role in Justin Bieber’s album “Justice” (2021), co-writing the popular singles “Holy” and “Ghost.” In July 2019, Bellion founded Beautiful Mind Records, an independent record label, as a platform to support and collaborate with other artists, signing pop/soul band Lawrence and later Tori Kelly. He released his first solo music in several years with “Kid Again” in 2024 and his third studio album, “Father Figure”, in 2025.
